This student study aboard tour was located at a worksite called Tai Hisban in the country of Jordan. It is an ancient archaeological site found in the time of Moses from the Bible. Our goal was to provide an amphitheater at low cost so visitors can learn more about what happened at the historical site. It was decided to use all common natural landscape and hardscape. Labor cost was minimal for this project.
The construction project was approved and funded by the Secretary of Agriculture of Jordan.
In the design, we planned to use the pottery which was found everywhere at the site. We used the gravel for the walkways and to provide a comfortable substance to walk on. Every rock used for the stone seats and platform were all natural rock found at the site. Our intention was for the people of Jordan to appreciate everything about their country and to learn more about their ancient history.
We used the same thought process for the plants. They were all common plants used in their zone and provided an agricultural knowledge of their country. The plants installed, however, were not fully mature. The olive trees were placed behind the billboards and seats of the auditorium so it provided soft green space.
In this section, you will see the different stages of the construction project.
